Programs
Prairie’s Edge Humane Society (formerly Rice County Humane Society) was the first humane society in Minnesota to require surgical sterilization of all its animals before allowing them to go to adoptive homes. We carry on that progressive tradition by arranging reduced cost spays and neuters to low income families, and to caretakers of free roaming cats in Rice County.

Pet Training Classes
Price: $65.00 for 6 weeks
We know that basic training helps keep dogs in their homes and out of shelters. The Rice County Humane Society now offers dog-friendly, gentle Good Manners training classes designed for pet dogs and puppies. Classes are divided into small skill-oriented modules. Pay for 6 weeks and move through at your own pace. Classes are taught by a Certified Pet Dog Trainer, and proceeds go to PEHS.

Free Roaming Cat Program
PEHS, in partnership with area veterinary clinics, offers a reduced cost on spaying or neutering cats who have an owner but who live exclusively outdoors. These free roaming cats breed regularly, and sterilizing them is a big step towards reducing the feline overpopulation problem. If you are interested in applying to this program, download the application. Send the completed application and the total payment for the cats you will be having sterilized. We will contact you to arrange an appointment at a participating veterinary clinic.
