Does your employer support a workplace giving campaign? When you take advantage of payroll deductions to support Prairie’s Edge Humane Society, your employer’s payroll department takes care of everything–you don’t even need a stamp!

Small donations to PEHS, taken out of each paycheck, can add up to a significant gift over a year’s time. And if your company offers matching funds, we can receive a gift from your employer as well.

Did you know that while animal related charities cannot be United Way agencies, you can still donate to us through the United Way? You are watching a live feed of adoptable animals at Prairie’s Edge Humane Society. Thanks to KYMN Radio in Northfield we have been able to set up a camera to air the antics of our adoptable animals.

We will be changing the camera location often to capture the lives of our shelter animals as they wait for their adopters to come find them. Remember, all the animals you see are available for adoption at our shelter.

A small humane society like PEHS depends on the efforts of a great many people-people who love animals and want what’s best for them; people who want to bring their talents and skills to the table to help us help animals. We’d like to recognize a handful of these special people, and let everyone know just how much their efforts mean!

Jill Engle-Jill has been taking picture of the animals at Prairie’s Edge, and writing their stories for posting on the Pet Finder, Adopt-a-Pet, and Petango websites. This is no small undertaking, and her photos and descriptions are helping our animals find an audience beyond just those folks who come to our shelter.
Jan Krause of the Award Centre in Northfield created a plaque with our new logo and mission statement. Jan did this as a donation because she believes in the work we do. We are proud to hang this beautiful expression of our commitment (and hers) to promoting the value of animals through care and education.
The groomer at Camp Canine donates free grooming to animals at our shelter who are in dire need of beautification! The most recent was Brandi, a Lhasa Apso cross who was so badly matted when she came to us that she could hardly see. Brandi spent a morning at Camp Canine and returned to us happy as could be-and gorgeous to boot! Brandi found her forever home after just one day on the adoption floor; it would never have been possible without the generosity of the folks at Camp Canine.

We could go on…but we thank everyone who plays a part in making the lives of animals better. 2010 Feline Companion Program – Foster Pets for Seniors

Every year during “kitten season”, adult cats in animal shelters are overlooked by potential adopters. Once the kittens have all been adopted we know adult cat adoptions will increase, but spending months on end in a shelter is not good for any animal! To get these lovely kitties into a home environment while they await their chance at adoption, PEHS created the Feline Companion Program. From May to October each year, adoptable adult cats can live in a foster home with a senior citizen who may otherwise not be able to have a cat.

PEHS’s Feline Companion Program is designed to give seniors who cannot undertake full time pet ownership the opportunity to temporarily enjoy the company of an adult cat.

The program also gives the adult cat a break from living in our shelter during a time when permanent adoption is unlikely.

Foster placement will average 3 to 6 months duration for each animal.

All participating cats are adults. They are adoptable, spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and healthy.

PEHS reserves the right to remove the cat if the placement doesn’t work.

Who is eligible to participate?

people at least 55 years of age
people approved for foster placement according to the guidelines of PEHS

What is required?

assurance that the cat will never be allowed outside
assurance that Prairie’s Edge Humane Society will be contacted if you are unable to care for this pet even for a brief period of time
assurance that the pet will be returned to PEHS if you can no longer provide its care, and at the end of its foster period
assurance that the pet will not be given away or released to anyone other than PEHS
assurance that the cat will be provided with good care and lots of TLC, and that Prairie’s Edge Humane Society will be notified of any change in the cat’s condition
The program begins in May and runs til October: Cats who are fostered in this program must be returned to the shelter by October 31 to be made available for adoption

What is provided?

food & litter (The foster will need to provide bowls and a litter box)
basic health care

Please collect any and all coupons and drop them off at the shelter, or mail them to us at 1201 Cannon Circle, Faribault, MN 55021.

Pet Lover Adoptions for Seniors

Grandmas and grandpas are the greatest-ask any kid!
We at PEHS love it when our animals go to homes where they bring joy to more than one generation,
so we have created a program to help get animals into grandma’s (and grandpa’s) house.

It’s called “Pet Lover Adoptions for Seniors”:
Any approved adopter over the age of 55 is eligible to receive a discount of 50% on the stated adoption fee for any cat over the age of 1 year or any dog over the age of 5 years.

(The animal must live with the senior adopter-sorry, gifts don’t count.)

But you don’t have to have grandkids to love a pet.
We want to increase our adoptions to all senior citizens no matter how big their family!
