Dog beds – Mills Fleet Farm carries two sizes of black plastic all-purpose tubs. (Look in the building supply area.) These tubs when filled with comfy blankets make excellent dog beds.  The small one is $5.99 and the large one is $10.99.

Kitty litter – simple clay litter does best for us
